Thoughts on Art and Machines: Looking Back, Looking Forward
Caroline Seck Langill in conversation with Norman White
Thursday January 12 | 6:30pm, $7.50 plus tax.
This evening of discussion between new media art historian Caroline Seck Langill and pioneering electronic media artist Norman White will track the emergence of new media art over the past half century. White was instrumental in the development of electronic media art at OCAD University.  This conversation will be far-reaching as Langill and White traverse the rapidly evolving history of digital art through the work of White, his colleagues, his students and his influences.

Augmented Reality: Magic, Art and the Machine with Helen Papagiannis
Sunday January 15 | 1pm
Augmented Reality (AR) - a layering of virtual information atop the  physical environment - is emerging as a creative force embraced by artists. AR's progression as a medium is comparable to cinema when it  first emerged, with an initial fascination in the technology and the magic of the machine dominating as opposed to content. Helen will explore the role of the artist in advancing AR and the function magic plays, speaking to her creative practice and process in AR as an artist and PhD researcher.

Technology, Art, and Prosthetics with Marcel O’Gorman
Saturday December 17th | 1pm
Marshall McLuhan described media technologies as "extensions of man," prosthetic devices that enhance our senses. This idea has come to define how we understand the contemporary human being in the Western world. But what if we have always been technological, always prosthetic, from the moment our ancient ancestors first used a piece of flint to crush a skull? From this perspective the human does not exist without technology. Marcel O'Gorman will make this bold argument while discussing several of the projects in the RAM exhibition.
