Here's the next edition in our series of staff profiles. This time, I introduce to you our Graphic Designer Courtney! I'll let her take it away...
Q. What do you do at THEMUSEUM?
I am THEMUSEUM’s Graphic Designer. When I’m not hanging out in the cafe drinking various yummy flavours of Danielle’s amazing lattes, that means I am upstairs clicking away at my computer and developing stunning new creative ideas with my partners in crime, Derek and Angela. Once the ideas are solidified, I put them onto paper, or billboards, or t-shirts... what have you.
Q. Give us the elevator pitch on you.
Well, I am kind of a hick. I grew up in a small town half an hour south of here called NewHamburg. Growing up in the country means you have a lot of space to develop a big imagination. You have to learn to entertain yourself. I began using art as my expression at a very young age when I began painting with a watercolour set that my father gave me. After that, art not only was my form of expression, it turned into sort of an obsession. Other activities included exploring the vast countryside and building tree forts in the forests surrounding my house -and everybody’s favorite, playing cow patty bingo at Waterloo Oxford during fundraisers :)
So now I am a bit of a tom-boy at heart, but I love to dress up and spend much of my time shopping and tending to my growing collection of exotic flowers. I live for costume parties and my favorite activity is meeting people and exploring their unique personalities-I have a lot of energy that I sometimes don’t know what to do with, so if you introduce yourself to me I am quite capable of talking your ear off to get to know you.
Q. If you were so inclined, how would you attempt to take over the world?
I would take control of the world by creating a hybrid of invincible plants that were so beautiful that would secrete a pollen that when smelt was so sweet that it would tranform all humans into peaceful, nature loving beings.
Q. Team Edward or Team Jacob? (if you’re younger than 25) Sonny or Cher? (if you’re older than 25)
I am not older then 25, however I would definelty be on team Cher. Her love of clothing and dress up astonishes me. If I could afford a wardrobe even 1/10 the size of hers I would be on cloud nine!
Q. Do you prefer long walks on the beach? Or long walks in the streets? And why?
I have always had a deep love of nature and especially for water. I am definetly a beach bum, and I can definitely see myself living near the ocean someday. I do enjoy the colours and the life that can be seen in the streets and then there is something about architecture that makes my heart speed up. But there is a peace and calm that comes over me when I am near the ocean that nothing else can replicate, and staying at a cottage for a week with some canoes and a good campfire is pretty much my dream vacation.
Q. If you were a webpage, what would you be about?
If I were a webpage I would be a collection of new and unique ideas like Notcot.org. Except I would put a spin on things and localize it to the area to celebrate up and coming local artists. If I could, I would make it social as well, adding a forum or social profiles like facebook where members can network and find other persons with like ideas and share events happening in their area.
Q. If you were stuck in THEMUSEUM overnight, what exhibit would you play with the most?
Pretty sure I could be found behind the walls of the Urban Street Scape sipping coffee in the Walper Terrace or dancing at the Beat Goes On. Once I have my caffeine buz going, I will definitely race the other personel at THEMUSEUM on the plasma cars and once the caffeine wears off I will join Jesse for a nap under the stars in the StarLab!
