One of most fun projects recently at THEMUSEUM concerned a few small caterpillars that sat on a table right next to me. Over a few days, these caterpillars found a suitable place where they felt comfortable, hardened into a cocoon, and in one of nature’s most incredible transformations, emerged to become beautiful Monarch Butterflies.
Much like these butterflies,
THEMUSEUM is going through a huge list of transformations. You might say we’re undergoing the process of metamorphosis ourselves. After 7 years of searching for our identity, we have settled on a place in the ever-changing arena of cultural institutions where we feel comfortable and confident, we have become firm in our commitment to the community, and over the next few weeks, we will begin an incredible transformation. We’ll be spreading our wings, soaring through the air on an exciting journey.
Now that these catepillars have transformed, we’ll be tracking their progress on their way to Mexico towards their wintering grounds. This blog will be a place where you can follow our journey – that of THEMUSEUM and all of us within who work diligently to make it the incredible place that it is. Similar to our Monarch friends who will be gathering with their brethren, we seek to engage those in our community and start fun and meaningful discussions around arts and culture. We hope this can be a place where those conversations can flourish.
Our metamorphosis has already begun. We’ve changed our name from The Children’s Museum to THEMUSEUM to reflect the broadening of the programming that we provide while still being the place to bring your children. A new banner with our branding now adorns the front of our building and the letters proclaiming “Waterloo Regional Children’s Museum” have been removed. Transformation is underway with more to come.
Change is often turbulent and exciting. Everyone one of us at THEMUSEUM looks forward to sharing this journey with you.
