Today’s update on the Case of the Kidnapped Chick. Someone is pulling a huge prank on us and no one knows who is doing it. Here are parts 1, 2, 3, and 3.1
One new clue and a list of suspects are on the agenda for today. First the new clues. We kept checking back at the dryer to see if the craft chick had been taken yet by the kidnapper. This did not happen until today where we found this!

So we’re obviously all eagerly anticipating 4pm. A couple of things about this letter. It suggests that there may be someone attempting to get in on some of the notoriety of this kidnapping. There’s been some discussion that the cryptic emails and the jar with the “bird remains” as being out of character for our villain…maybe this is what the letter is referring to as the “Copy Cats”.
Also, Mark emailed me this morning suggesting this may have to do with National Chicken Dance day being celebrated at THEMUSEUM next week on May 14th. This is also in conjunction with the launch of Animal Grossology. Are these related? Did Mark just give himself away?
What about our list of suspects?
So I’ve tossed a lot of names around in the last few days and I realize that it might be confusing. I decided that we needed a definitive list of suspects and reasons they could or couldn’t be the culprit. I kind of think that this is at least a two person job, so it very well could be more than one of these people. Have a look and let me know what you think!
Sarah (Partnerships and Special Events)
She did it: Most recent fonts on her Word program match up with the fonts used in the ransom letters. Has access to the whole building and is known to be in here at odd times. Sits right next to Melissa.
She didn’t do it: Her personality really clashes with the psychological profile being developed here by most of THEMUSEUM staff. Didn’t know that Melissa was gifted the chick.
Meaghan (Manager of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships)
She did it: Owner of the box used in the Polaroid photos
She didn’t do it: Doesn’t fit the psych profile either. Can’t be placed at the scene of any of the locations of letters. Is allergic to peanut M&M’s which were placed in the light box drop off.
David (CEO of THEMUSEUM)
He did it: Loves this kind of thing. Is known for participating in great mysteries before. Has access to the whole building and was known to be here last weekend. If he wasn’t the one to do this, he probably wishes it was his idea.
He didn’t do it: He’s kind of really busy with you know, running the place and all.
Chuck (Director of Sales & Operations)
He did it: He’s been pretty quiet about this whole thing and he generally is all about being involved with this kind of stuff. He’s also a known prankster from his Ontario Place days.
He didn’t do it: Spends very specific hours at THEMUSEUM in order to manage his kids going to and leaving school in Georgetown making it extremely difficult to execute this plan.
Angela (Director of Brand, Marketing & Digital Media)
She did it: Lives a few blocks away making it very easy to plant letter and steal the chick. Has been very much intrigued by the progress of the investigation. Usual keeper of the missing Polaroid camera.
She didn’t do it: She’s terrible at lying.
Mark (Summer Camp Coordinator, Interpreter, member of hit musical group Interpret This)
He did it: Knew which box was the correct one used in the Polaroid photos way too easily. Seems to have way too much information about this caper and reacts somewhat strangely to accusations. Seems like something he might do.
He didn’t do it: He just started a new role here which would be bad timing to start this scheme. His schedule here doesn’t line up well with the timeline of events.
Derek – that’s me! (Digital Media & Marketing Coordinator)
He did it: Seems like something I would do. Great online content to exploit. Is way too excited about each detail in this kidnapping.
He didn’t do it: He was gone all weekend, making it difficult to have kidnapped the chick.
Brent (Former Director of Development)
He did it: Knows about the chick, has a mind for this type of thing
He didn’t do it: He no longer has access to the building and hasn’t been seen here since Friday.
Rob (Facilities Coordinator)
He did it: He has access to the entire building and has been here at weird hours with the installation of Animal Grossology.
He didn’t do it: He’s extremely busy with the Animal Grossology install and it really doesn’t seem like something he would do…or would he?!
Chantelle (Executive Assistant)
She did it: Could be in cahoots with David. Is very under the radar.
She didn’t do it: Is also a terrible liar.
Shaun (Volunteer Coordinator)
He did it: Frequent user of the Polaroid camera and one of the few to even know it exists.
He didn't do it: Has not been at THEMUSEUM much lately and his schedule conflicts with the timing of the events.
Sherri (Manager of Visitor Services)
She did it: She generally knows everything that's going on here. If she didn't do it, she's a good bet to know who is. We haven't really focused on her yet, but she should be a prime suspect.
She didn't do it: Didn't know about the chick until this kidnapping.
So make sure you stay tuned for 4pm. I'll have a quick update then!
