The Brush Off returns as Region-Wide Art Final

21 local artists face-off in friendly, live-art competition

Kitchener, ON – On Saturday, January 23, THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener will come alive with an
avant garde, live-art competition: The Brush Off, 5th Edition. The Brush Off, which has been a sold out
event for the past four years, puts 21 local artists head-to-head in a friendly paint-off. The artists, which
can be seen online, compete in four 30-minute rounds of painting. The winners are determined by the
attendees, who are able to vote for their favourites in each round. After the last round, three winners
will be declared.
This year’s competition includes three participating artists who won similar live-art competitions this
past summer, which took place at Ideas Exchange (Cambridge) and Button Factory Arts (Waterloo).
“We are excited to bring together the local arts and culture community,” said David Marskell, CEO of
THEMUSEUM. “The Brush Off attracts both well-known and emerging artists, and allows everyone to
collaborate. I am particularly pleased that this has grown in collaboration with Idea Exchange and Button
Factory Arts.”
Throughout the duration of the event, 36 unique works of art will be produced. Each painting will be
part of a silent auction, with proceeds going back to the artists and THEMUSEUM.
A cash bar will be on-site, and B @ THEMUSEUM will be providing food. State of the Art Supplies – The
Brush Off’s official sponsor – have donated all art supplies, as well as prizes for the event.
Doors for The Brush Off will open at 6:30pm on Saturday, January 23, and the event will begin at
7:00pm. Admission to THEMUSEUM’s exhibitions, LIGHT Illuminated and Ice Age Mammals – which
also opens to the public on Saturday, January 23 – are included in the ticket price. More information and
tickets are available online at
