Cuban Ambassador to Canada to open The Havana Dialogues at THEMUSEUM

Julio Garmendía Peña will speak at THEMUSEUM on Canadian-Cuban diplomatic relations

Kitchener, ONTHEMUSEUM is excited to host the Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Julio Garmendía Peña, for the official opening of its upcoming international exhibition, The Havana Dialogues | 70 Years of Canadian-Cuban Diplomatic Relations, on Sunday, November 1 at 1:30pm.
Garmendía Peña, will speak about the history of Canadian-Cuban diplomatic relations after welcoming the media for a special meeting, beginning at 12:50pm. Media must RSVP to this event by emailing
“I am pleased to be visiting THEMUSEUM on the 70th anniversary of uninterrupted Canadian-Cuban diplomatic relations,” said Peña. “I will be discussing the history of these two country’s partnerships, and sharing stories and insight from my time serving as the Cuban Ambassador to Canada.”
The Havana Dialogues accompanies an exhibition that features two collections of black and white photographs; one from the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa depicting the political relationship between the two countries, and a second by Canadian photographer Nick Devlin, which depicts the life and culture of modern day Cuba. A series of speakers, performances and screenings will explore the history, culture and politics of Cuba.
“The goal of the exhibition is to create a dialogue surrounding Cuban history and culture, its connections to Canada, and the country’s unique diversity,” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM.
Admission to this dialogue is free with a suggested $10.00 donation.
