Kim Fellows, one of our Interpreters relayed this pretty amazing story from the ADD COLOUR: A Yoko Ono Exhibition that I'd like to share with you:
On the 4th floor, in the HEAL room (canvas with mending), I asked a young boy to show me what he had been working on. He pointed at some initials he stitched … “N.W.”
“Are those your initials?” I asked him.
“No, they’re my friend’s, who just died of leukemia.”
The boy is 11 years old, and his friend was 11. The boy’s mom let me know how great the ADD COLOUR exhibit has been for him.
This is a beautiful story about how ideas can transcend objects. Though it is just a torn canvas hanging from the ceiling, this boy used it to heal his sadness from losing a friend.
THEMUSEUM’s mission is to scan the globe for fresh cultural content and use it to stage experiences that stimulate transformative connections for our audiences.
To us, it’s more than art on a wall. We use it to ignite conversations, inspire creative thinking, and promote the creative culture this community has to offer.
Your tax-deductible gift will be used to bring dynamic exhibitions, programs, and education opportunities from across the globe to Waterloo Region and make THEMUSEUM a creative hub for creative thinking and explorative play for visitors of all ages.

This spring THEMUSEUM introduced the community to Melody, a Walk On Piano (like the one from the Tom Hanks’ movie BIG) with a dream to live at THEMUSEUM. Community members, local foundations, and businesses came together to raise $51,800 to match a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to enhance the permanent family exhibit with four new interactive experiences, including Melody.
Thanks to the support from the community, Melody and three other interactive experiences have joined THEMUSEUM’s permanent family experience. We invite you to check out the 2nd floor and dance a song on Melody’s happy keys!
