Eleven candidates confirmed for A Cultural Exchange 5.0 at THEMUSEUM
Kitchener and Waterloo federal candidates to discuss art and culture
Kitchener, ON – On September 23, THEMUSEUM will host A Cultural Exchange 5.0. Eleven of 16 candidates in the Kitchener and Waterloo ridings have confirmed their attendance for the event as follows:
Kitchener Centre: Susan Cadell (NDP), Raj Saini (Liberal), Nicholas Wendler (Green) and Stephen Woodworth (Conservative).
Kitchener-Conestoga: Bob Jonkman (Green), Tim Louis (Liberal) and James Villeneuve (NDP).
Kitchener South-Hespeler: Lorne Bruce (NDP).
Waterloo: Bardish Chagger (Liberal), Diane Freeman (NDP) and Richard Walsh (Green).
A Cultural Exchange 5.0 aims to host discussion of the importance of arts and culture with members of cultural organizations, institutions, and the general public. THEMUSEUM has hosted four past A Cultural Exchange 5.0 events for federal, provincial and municipal elections.
“This event is not a debate,” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “It is an invitation and opportunity to foster discussion regarding the arts and culture community that exists within Waterloo Region; it will give candidates the opportunity to discuss their views and plans for arts and culture with individuals working within the sector, and with members of the general public who are invested in and support these organizations.”
Each federal candidate will be selected at random throughout the night, and have up to three and a half minutes to share their position on arts and culture, which will then be followed by a round table discussion lasting five minutes with arts and culture representatives and members of the general public.
Afterward, candidates will rotate to another table to ensure they have a chance to meet everyone throughout the evening. After each rotation, arts and culture representatives will be given time to speak about their organizations and upcoming projects, and then a new candidate will be selected to speak.
Admission to A Cultural Exchange 5.0 is free, with a suggested donation of $5.00 toward the Fast Forward Waterloo Region exhibition, which is curated and presented by local artists. Those wishing to see the exhibition can arrive as early as 5:00 p.m. A Cultural Exchange 5.0 will begin at 6:15 p.m.
