Join THEMUSEUM's volunteer team to animate QUANTUM: The Exhibition!

Exhibition Description: QUANTUM: The Exhibition was created by the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) at the University of Waterloo. It is bilingual, accessible, and interactive; the exhibition showcases Canada's scientific excelled in quantum information science and technology. The exhibition will examine how quantum mechanics and information technology are merging to create technologies that will revolutionize and define the 21st century. Visitors will engage with the core concepts of quantum mechanics through hands-on interactives, multimedia displays, videos and stories of pioneering scientists in this emerging field. They will also learn about technologies that already exist that utilize these principles, along with having the chance to share their vision of a quantum future. Description of the Volunteer Position: 

  • Join us to share your passion and expertise in science, physics and quantum technology with THEMUSEUM's visitors!
  • This is a public-facing role, where you will be expected to be able to converse and answer visitor questions about the exhibits and displays contained within QUANTUM: The Exhibition, along with permanent installations withing THEMUSEUM
  • Providing personal experience and anecdotes to animate exhibition components is highly encouraged 
  • You will support Interpreters (THEMUSEUM floor-staff) by helping with visitor safety, customer service, exhibition supervision, and assisting with our public programs
  • May lead exhibition-specific programming and demonstrations in the exhibition space
  • May have the opportunity to assist with The Quantum Dialogues, both on and offsite

Skills and Experience: 

  • Proactive, driven, and a great communicator 
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge in Quantum Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Science Communication, and/or Information Technology 
  • Demonstrated ease speaking and interacting with the public 
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment 
  • Able to jump into the role where the need is greatest 
  • Fast learner, able to quickly learn specific information regarding the exhibition and in turn deliver it to our visitors in an engaging and entertaining manner

Orientation/Training: Orientation to the organization and position will be provided.

Reports to: Program Coordinators

Time Commitment: Flexible shifts during THEMUSEUM's fall operating hours. Wednesdays through Sundays, weekday or weekend shifts, October 14th, 2016 to January 1st, 2017.
