Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters Blows into Town
Exhibition focused on volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes opens July 1st
Kitchener, ON – Beginning Canada Day, July 1st, a whirlwind of new interactive displays and groundbreaking content will be on display at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener. The new exhibition, called Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters, will be on display for an eight-month run.
Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters focuses on volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes. It will bring visitors up close with naturally occurring events, and explain the unique relationships that humans share with Mother Nature. Visitors will be able to see the destruction that storms leave behind, learn how populations are able to recover, and become better prepared for what are becoming more frequent and more violent natural disasters.
“The exhibition is a fun family experience for the entire family that will hopefully transform people in their thinking on climate change issues and how we treat the planet,” said David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “It will connect people with nature in a new interactive way, as it relates to many global catastrophes such as the recent floods in France, and forest fires in Fort McMurray.”
“The interactions between humans and our surrounding environments are important factors to always consider. The exhibition will be expanding upon these themes, and more, in the fall, when we launch an accompanying dialogue series that reflects the exhibition,” he continued.
THEMUSEUM will launch new public programs with the exhibition – such as daily crafts and weather-themed science experiments – as well as new educational programs in the fall that will connect with the Ontario curriculum. A hurricane simulator will also be added to the first floor for visitors who are brave enough to experience the force of the storm first-hand.
Local program sponsors include Gore Mutual Insurance Company, Staebler Insurance, the University of Waterloo’s Water Institute and Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change, and RSA Insurance. TD Friends of the Environment Foundation is also a supporting educational sponsor. For information on tickets, parking, and more please visit www.THEMUSEUM.ca.
