THEMUSEUM’s Corporate Partnerships Philosophy

We at THEMUSEUM strongly believe in creative, mutually beneficial partnerships. It is these partnerships that enable us to bring dynamic speakers, exhibitions and programming to this community but also can serve as a way for businesses to connect with the community. Though we are located in Waterloo Region, our impact casts a huge net as we work tirelessly to increase tourism to Waterloo Region.

Corporate Sponsorship at its Best

On Thursday December 9th 2010, THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener hosted Jon Landau, the Academy Award Winning Producer of the films Titanic and Avatar. This very special event was in association with THEMUSEUM’s feature show, Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition and was so highly anticipated, THEMUSEUM sold out seats in the first twenty-four hours after announcing the event online.

What made this event even more special was the support of the local innovators at Christie Digital Systems Canada Inc. It was Christie’s team who recognized the opportunity to and sought to help THEMUSEUM bring Mr. Landau to Waterloo Region.

In September 2011, Christie announced a new partnership with Lightstorm Entertainment – the company owned by Mr. Landau and Oscar Winning Director, James Cameron to work directly with Lightstorm to accelerate the development of the next generation of cinema technology known as High Frame Rate (HFR) and that Christie will provide technical assistance in the production of Avatar 2 and 3.

“This story is one of mutual benefits and wins. Supporting arts and culture should not be looked at as a handout – rather it should be viewed as a partnership,” explained David Marskell, CEO of THEMUSEUM. “At THEMUSEUM we strive to make every relationship with sponsors mutually beneficial. I applaud Gerry Remers (President and COO of Christie Canada) and his team for showing leadership in this area and recognizing that working with non-profits can be part of sound business and marketing decisions.”

Kathryn Cress Christie’s Vice President, Global & Corporate Marketing is equally pleased with the results. “A business partnership truly has to work both ways – and I can’t think of a better example than this. Christie was able to fulfill a community need, help THEMUSEUM and ultimately turn that into an opportunity. It’s a great model.”
